Color Story : Candy

Hello Readers,

Amidst all the hullabloo about the color of that blue-black or white-gold dress, I introduce a new feature on my blog called ‘Color Stories’! I’m sharing snapshots of my travels, tied together by color. Why this post is called ‘Candy’, you ask? Check out Ingrid Sundberg‘s post about the Color Thesaurus, that’s why! Hope you will enjoy browsing through my travel world, as I do when I revisit memories locked in my albums 🙂

Photo Challenge : Shadowed

Shadowed, in response to the Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge. I took this shot of one of the many outhouses at Copenhagen’s Kronborg Castle. What I completely love about the picture is the way the shadows of the trees seem to converge at some point beyond the photograph. At an earlier time in the same day they must have been perfectly parallel to each other, never meant to meet but to stand apart. But as the day wears off they seem to find a way to lean out and reach together.

It makes me think, at a time when our world seems to be falling to pieces around us, I suppose it is pure hope that keeps us believing that perhaps one day all mankind will eventually find a way to overlook barriers, reach out to one another & see the world with an equal eye. At the very least, it’s a future worth praying for…

2014 favorites

2014 has been a super year for Sunny District. It’s been fun & happening. I’ve been able to share some excellent experiences, travelling stories and cool experiments. Here’s a quick round-up of some of my most popular posts from the previous year, in no particular order. And along with it comes a big thank you & lots of hugs for my readers!

I started sharing a new ‘Adventure‘ category with my readers & you certainly liked my skydiving story.

I was lucky to travel to many awesome places like Kiruna, Mallorca, Copenhagen, Athens, Santorini, Madrid, Lisbon & Porto. Although I haven’t had a chance to share my accounts of all these lovely places, but you can click on the links to read about the ones I have. I guess you liked this recent bright mash-up most of all.

I gorged on some fantastic cuisines while on my trips; my trip to Madrid seems to have been most inspiring.

I didn’t exercise my green thumb too much this year, but my herb garden did draw some accolades from you. Thank you!

Thankfully I made time to keep up with my reading, and my favorite book this year, as well as your favorite account was The Book Thief.

Thank you once again, dear readers, 2014 has been so awesome, I am raring to go for 2015!!

Photo Challenge: Yellow

As The Daily Post very wisely noted, the festivals around this time of the year tend to nearly ignore the color yellow. So here’s a round-up of some bright splashes of yellow… it quite suits the sunny name of my blog, right?

Colorful Copenhagen

When I looked back through my album of Copenhagen from our road-trip earlier this year, what really popped out at me was the multicolored snapshots of the city. It is not just wall graffiti, as I shared in my accounts of street art in Barcelona, murals in Stockholm or graffiti in Athens, but there were several installations that makes this city so vibrant and brings together people in a special way. All the flowers seemed bright & happy in their full spring glory!

And then there is Christiania, a self-proclaimed autonomous ‘region’ inside of Copenhagen which claims to be not a part of the EU, but is rather governed by its own Christiania Law of 1989. Visitors are gracefully allowed inside, but asked to be respectful of the citizens and not bother them by wielding cameras all over the place. There is food & drinks and knick-knacks you could buy, or simply walk around the streets and listen to people singing or playing musical instruments, or watch children play in charming DIY playpens. And of course, there is that undeniable whiff of weed in the air. It’s an extraordinary feeling inside, so atypical as though from a book or a movie, but unfortunately I don’t have pictures to help describe it. There are a few from the vicinity of the neighborhood, though.
